What Meydan Free Zone is

Meydan Free Zone is an economic zone in Meydan City, the district in Dubai that is built around Meydan Racecourse. The zone describes itself as serving everyone from solo entrepreneurs and freelancers to SMEs and large international companies, and it publishes a list of more than 2,500 business activities across trading, services, technology, media, education, healthcare and other sectors.

The zone is popular with founders who want a Dubai address and a Dubai licence without taking a large office on day one. According to Meydan Free Zone, every licence comes with a flexi-desk that meets the workspace requirement, and the application is handled online. You only need to be in the UAE for the residence visa steps, such as the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics.

The licence options, visa allocation and workspace all depend on the package you choose, and free zones review their packages from time to time. Treat any figure you see online, including on this page, as a starting point. Your Caliph consultant confirms the current rules for your activity before you commit.

Who Meydan Free Zone suits

Consultants and service firms

Advisory, marketing, IT and other service businesses that work from a laptop and need a licensed company in Dubai.

Founders setting up from abroad

The zone says the whole setup can be done online, and it offers a licence route for non-residents who do not plan to relocate.

Small trading businesses

General and specialised trading activities are on the list, and warehouses are available if you need to hold stock.

E-commerce and online brands

Online sellers can combine e-commerce with trading or service activities, as long as the activities sit in groups the zone allows together.

Freelancers and solo founders

The zone is designed to serve solo entrepreneurs as well as larger companies, so a single founder can set up without a local partner.

Activities and licence options

Meydan Free Zone groups its activities into activity groups. The zone states that a single licence can carry activities from up to three groups, which lets a consultancy add training or an online store add general trading without a second licence. Some activities, for example in healthcare, education, finance or media, may also need approval from an outside regulator before they can be added.

The zone offers more than one licence route. Alongside its standard licence, it promotes an instant licence called Fawri for a defined list of activities, and a licence for non-residents who want a UAE company and access to non-resident banking without moving to the UAE. Each route has its own conditions and its own visa position, so the right one depends on whether you plan to live here, hire staff or simply invoice clients through a UAE company.

Companies can be registered as a Free Zone Establishment (FZE), a Free Zone Company (FZCO) or a branch of a company that already exists in the UAE or abroad. Your consultant explains which form fits your shareholding and your plans for partners.

What to have ready

  • A passport copy for each shareholder and the manager
  • Proof of residential address for each shareholder
  • Your UAE visa page and Emirates ID, if you already live in the UAE
  • Three company name options in order of preference
  • A short description of the business and the activities you want
  • For a corporate shareholder, the parent company documents and a board resolution

Meydan Free Zone sets the final list for your package, and it may ask for more documents for regulated activities or corporate shareholders. Your consultant gives you the exact list before anything is submitted.

How Meydan Free Zone setup works

  1. Free consultation

You tell us what the business does, who your customers are and how many visas you need. We confirm the activities and the licence route.

  2. Name and activities

Caliph checks the company name options and the activity groups with the zone.

  3. Online application

We submit the application with the passport copies, address proof and the signed forms.

  4. Licence and company documents

After approval you sign the company documents and the zone issues the licence and registration papers.

  5. Residence visas

If your package includes visas, we handle the entry permit or status change, the medical test, the Emirates ID and the visa.

  6. Bank account and tax

We prepare the bank file and check whether you need to register for corporate tax and VAT.

Timeline and cost

Meydan Free Zone advertises fast processing, including an instant licence for some activities. In practice your timeline depends on the activity, any outside approvals, how quickly the documents are complete and how many visas you need. The licence is often the quick part. Residence visas, the bank account and tax registration take longer.

The cost depends on the licence route, the number of activity groups, the number of visas and the workspace. We do not publish package prices because the zone revises them and runs offers. Book a free consultation and your consultant will set out the current cost for your exact setup, including the visa and government charges, before you pay anything.

Good to know

  • A free zone company trades inside its zone and internationally. If most of your customers will be on the Dubai mainland, ask your consultant how you will invoice and deliver to them before you choose a free zone.
  • A flexi-desk satisfies the licence, but some banks and larger clients ask about your real place of business. Tell us if you plan to bid for tenders or open accounts with banks that ask for a physical office.
  • Visa allocation is tied to the package. Count the visas you need for owners and staff over the first two years before you pick the lightest option.
  • A free zone company still has to register for corporate tax, and for VAT if it crosses the threshold. See our corporate tax page.
